The 14km white sand beach as seen from a small vestiage of natural landscape at the southernmost end of the beach. The famous beaches of Cancun, Mexico represent the significant environmental impact that industrial tourism can have on the Mesoamerican Reef. This entire area at the northern most end of the Mesoamerican Reef was once all mangrove lagoons provinding critical habitat for reproduction, etc of countless nearshore species. From a 2014 iLCP (International League of Conservation Photographers) expedition project documenting the people and places of the Mexican section of the Mesoamerican Reef (MAR).
